6 steps for pallet racking installation

However, if you only need a few bays, hiring professionals might not be cost-effective. In that case, you can assemble them yourself. If the racking is under 3 meters high, you won’t need special tools. For taller racks, we recommend getting help from pros who have the right tools.

If you choose to install the pallet racking on your own, follow these simple steps. It may take some time, but it’s not difficult.

Before You Start Installation

*Understand the warehouse environment where the pallet racking will be installed.

*Check the floor type to ensure it can support the storage and handling equipment.

*Know the details about the goods you will store, including pallet specifications.

*Be aware of the maximum load limits for the racking.

*Plan the layout to allow enough space for safe loading and unloading.

*Identify the handling equipment you’ll use, like pallet trucks or forklifts.

*Consider collision protection needs.

*Know who will perform the installation.

*If possible, think about future storage needs.

*Check your materials list to ensure you have everything. Report any damaged items, and confirm that all components are in good condition.

Assembly Steps

Step 1: Assemble the Frame

A. Lay two posts parallel on the ground. Ensure the holes for the post feet are at the same end.

B. Attach the post feet using bolts and nuts.

C. Fasten the first horizontal bracing in the first hole from the end.

D. Secure the same horizontal bracing. Then, add the first diagonal bracing in the second hole on the opposite post.

E. Continue adding the rest of the bracing to finish the frame sets.

Step 2: Raise the End Frame

A- Use a forklift to lift the End Frame and keep it stable.

B- Install two beams 9 inches (about 200mm) above the ground.

C-Secure them with safety clips or nuts and bolts.

Step 3: Add Additional End Frames

A. Install another End Frame at the opposite end of the beams, also 9 inches from the ground. Secure it.

B. Add two more beams about 60 inches higher or at a comfortable height.

C. Secure the beams on the End Frames using safety clips or nuts and bolts.

Step 4: Install More Beam Levels

A. Add two additional beam levels around 60 inches higher or as needed.

B. Always secure with safety clips or nuts and bolts.

C. Position the bay in its final location.

D. Level the uprights with shims, keeping within tolerance limits.

E. Anchor both End Frames to the ground, confirming they are in the final position.

Step 5: Install Beams

A. Install a minimum of 4 beams per bay or as required.

B. Always secure with safety clips or nuts and bolts.

Step 6: Add Spacers

When adding sections, fasten spacers between uprights to ensure proper spacing.

Properly anchor all uprights.
