Hot-dip galvanized (HDG) gives both barrier protection and sacrificial (cathodic) protection. Small scratches are protected by the sacrificial nature of zincIf the coating gets scratched, the zinc coating prevent the exposed steel from corroding.

Galvanized racking usually costs 15-35% more than powder-coated options. This is due to extra cost of galvanizing process, which involves energy, materials, and handling.
Limited Color Options:
It is available only in a spangled silver-gray color. This limits the ability to color the beam and protector in orange and yellow for better visibility.
Only suitable for thick parts:
When hot dipped galvanized, the part thickness should be more than 1.2mm, thin parts like steel shelf is not suitable for this treatment. As material may become soft during HDP process.
Initial Handling Residue:
New HDG racks may have a slight zinc oxide residue or “wet storage stain.” This should be brushed off before use, but it’s a minor one-time task.
